The HHTS is an education service based in the Aberdeen Children’s Hospital, that provides educational support to children and young people of statutory school age whose education has been interrupted for a time.
As well as working on an outreach basis within the home or alternative accommodation, HHTS teachers also work with children admitted to the medical and surgical words and the Lowit Unit.
The teachers are qualified primary or secondary teachers with experience in the relevant subject areas. They link with schools and work through the schoolwork provided.
Often the teacher will focus on key subjects such as Maths and English but may be able to work on other subject areas. This will depend on the time available.
Children who are absent through prolonged ill-health
For children and young people whose absence from school is more than 15 consecutive days or 20 days of intermittent absence, for verifiable medical reasons, special arrangements should be made for education outwith school.
The main sources of referrals may be the child’s own school, parents, health services, GPs and social work.
Enquiries may be made of the Head Teacher of the
Hospital and Home Tuition Service,
